Rules
Start with all number tiles showing. Roll the dice. Add up the sum of the dice. Flip tiles in any combination that adds up to the sum total rolled. Player continues to roll until the sum total of a roll can't be flipped up. The ultimate goal is to Shut The Box by exactly flipping up all tiles.

Example : Player rolls on the first toss of the round.

The player may flip the 7 or 2 & 5 or 1 & 6 or 3 & 4. The complete sum of the dice must be able to be used or your turn is over. It is also legal to flip up 3 or 4 tiles when it applies i.e. 6 can be made up of 1 + 2 + 3, 10 can be made up of 1 + 2 + 3 + 4.

Alternate Rules
Game A: When playing in a group, add up the unflipped tiles for your round score. In Shut the Box, the higher your score, the worse you've done. Once someone hits 200 points or higher, the round finishes out and the player with the lowest score wins. If a player rolls a perfect round by exactly eliminating all tiles, which is to "Shut The Box", the player automatically wins.

Game B: Instead of keeping a running score of the left over tiles, just see who can get the best (lowest) score in a round. The first to win 3 rounds or 5 rounds or 7 rounds etc, wins. The winner of the previous round is the starting point for the next round.

Game C: Shut The Box With More Math! Instead of just adding dice together for a number, have the option of subtracting or multiplying the dice values as well. So rolling a 3 & 4 would mean you could either play 7 (adding), 1 (subtracting), or 12 (multiplying). Scores will be lower and shutting the box is easier. Adjust ending score if desired from standard game.

Game D: Drinking game - endless possibilities really. My house rule is that if you roll snake eyes twice in a row to start a game, you need to finish your beer. That is the worst turn you could possibly have. Doing it is far more rare than shutting the box.

Game E: Traditional Shut The Box often has tiles numbered through 9 only. So start with the 10, 11, & 12 tiles flipped up and play following the main rules above. Ending score should be scaled down to 100 or 150. Shutting the box is considerably easier on a 9 tile start.
